SPAM™ Recipe Contest

Aloha SPAM® Lovers,

Mutual Publishing is proud to announce the 2008 SPAM® Recipe Contest Grand Prize winner, Shayna Lum. Shayna shined with her Tasty Spam® Mochi Rice recipe, which was based on a traditional Chinese dish her mother makes.

The contest finals were held on Saturday, June 25th, at this year’s Flavors of Honolulu event.

After toiling for days to prepare for the contest, each entrant arrived toting the fruit of their labors—an original SPAM® creation.

The evening was full of anticipation and hungry spectators. Cedric Duarte, the event’s master of ceremonies, gave the audience a rundown of what would take place as delicious SPAM® goodies were handed out.

Celebrity judges included Betty Shimabukuro, Features Editor at the Honolulu Star-Bulletin; John Aeto, General Manager of KUMU; Russell Yamanaha, KHNL Sportscaster; and well-known radio personality, Chris Hughes. Each judge brought a unique viewpoint and taste to the SPAM® dishes they tried.

The criteria for the winning recipe was based upon originality, taste, general appeal, ease of preparation, presentation, and the proportion of SPAM® included in the dish.

SPAM™ RECIPE CONTEST GRAND PRIZE

Vacations-Hawaii gift certificate for a trip for two to Las Vegas compliments of Hormel Foods. The gift certificate, valued at $1600, covers round-trip airfare, hotel, ground transportation, and meals. The gift certificate is nontransferable and may not be redeemed for cash.
