This very special cookbook is comprised of recipes submitted by Hawaii’s own firefighters: recipes that have been prepared and loved in firehouses across the State of Hawaii! 

A call for recipes in July 2015 brought in both the recipes needed, as well as heart-warming stories about meals shared with other firefighters. These delicious recipes included local staples, family legacy dishes, and tried and true “feed-a-crowd” favorites. Some recipes were inspirations captured from travels to distant countries. A number of recipes were adaptations of our firefighter’s favorite restaurant meals. A few paid homage to a family member, a fellow brother or a dear friend. And heartwarmingly, many said that a good number of these recipes had been passed down from Captain to Recruit.

One collection generously donated to this project was comprised of recipes from a retired firefighter’s entire career. When asked why he had so carefully documented all of these recipes, he replied, “To provide solid recipes for incoming recruits that were easy to prepare.”

As you will find from the wonderful variety and quality of the recipes enclosed, they are also resourceful and budget-conscious when it comes to preparing delicious meals for their crew.
